Raising Exceptions

Python allows us to raise exceptions in several ways using the raise statement. Other languages may use throw. We can specify three parameters when using the raise statement, namely, exception type, the exception argument, and traceback. Using the raise statement without any arguments re-raises the last exception. The general syntax for raising exceptions is:

raise [Exception [, args [, traceback]]]

The exception argument and traceback are optional. Let’s examine how to raise exceptions in a way that is compatible with both Python 2 and 3. We will look at exceptions without a traceback first, and then exceptions with a traceback later.
